Community for the Re-education
and growth of Character

About Us

Who We Are

Hogar CREA is a non-profit organization with over half a century of presence and efforts in preventing and treating alcohol and substance abuse. Our organization was founded in 1968 by Juan José García Ríos in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. CREA stands for the words, “Community for the Re-Education of Addicts” and has Spanish origins. We are driven by the philosophy that believes in the responsibility of the individual and the group, mutual assistance, and self-effort.

There are 104 facilities that currently operate under Hogar CREA in the US, Puerto Rico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Half a dozen of our facilities are located in Allentown, Bethlehem, Freemansburg, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Reading.

Hogar CREA provides a home-like environment to all our residents. They will learn spiritual, physical, moral, and emotional values that help build a sound character. Besides, they will learn to take up responsibilities for their own conduct and life.

Our Philosophy

At Hogar CREA, our central philosophy is that everyone is born with the natural instinct of self-respect and dignity. We understand the importance of treating self-respect like a plant that needs care and cultivation until the roots become strong enough to withstand whatever life throws at you. A disturbance can affect the growth of individual self-respect. Mutual support goes a long way in helping our roots reach deeper and hold more strongly to strengthen our foundation. The environment we provide helps our residents to overcome the obstacles that prevent them from achieving maturity, self-respect, and dignity.

CREA is also our symbol and it represents the desire to create and rise from a life of addiction. The abuse of drugs will cause a human to destroy themselves, their family, and the community. When they enter CREA, they are reborn, leading to the creation of habits, positive qualities, manners, customs, and attitudes.

After having destroyed our lives by addition, when we become part of CREA we are born again to take our new place in the community. Fear not about the community accepting you again because once we regain our dignity, we become the community.

SIGAMOLA.
